Product Description

What is it?
Air springs are heavy duty torsion bars coiled around an axis which compress and expand to absorb motion of the wheels. They are used in car suspension systems and are they are considered more efficient in vibration isolation than steel springs. Air springs are useful to the air suspension system of a vehicle as they offer a smooth ride and they assist in leveling.
The rubber that the air springs are made out of is very tough, but it can wear out for a number of reasons. It can be susceptible to damage from moisture. Extremes of hot and cold can also damage the rubber. Drivers in hot or cold climates are more likely to experience air spring failures than those in mild climates. The rubber could also be punctured by road debris.
Any of these problems can cause the air spring to leak air which will make the suspension sag causing the vehicle to sit uneven or, if the leak is sever enough, the vehicle may not reach proper ride height.

How to replace it?
Replacing air suspension parts will take some work, but can be done by a do-it-yourselfer.
Turn the air suspension switch off. Locate the air suspension switch.
Raise and support the vehicle. Deflate the air suspension system.
Disconnect the electrical connector to the air spring solenoid. Remove the air line from the air spring solenoid.
Remove the air spring solenoid from the air spring assembly. Remove the rear air spring retainer located on the top of the air spring.
Lift the air spring off of the bottom mount on the rear axle. Place the bottom of the air spring onto the bottom spring mount on the axle.
Compress the air spring assembly with your hands.
Install the spring retainer clip on the top of the air spring. Install the air spring solenoid valve into the air spring.
Connect the air spring solenoid electrical connector. Connect the air line to the air spring solenoid.
Lower the vehicle to the ground. Turn the suspension switch back to the on position.
Air springs are heavy duty torsion bars coiled around an axis which compress and expand to absorb motion of the wheels. They consist of several layers of metal bound together which function as a single unit. They are used in car suspension systems and are they are considered more efficient in vibration isolation than steel springs. Air springs are useful to the air suspension system of a vehicle as they offer a smooth ride and they assist in leveling.
As mentioned before, it can be susceptible to damage from moisture. Extremes of hot and cold can also damage the rubber.
